BILL OF QUANTITITES

Other Chapters

  • Q1: What is B.O.Q?
Ans: The term B.O.Q refers to the Bill of Quantities. A B.O.Q is a document prepared by a cost estimator to calculate the exact cost of project work by multiplying item work by their rate.
  • Q2: Define P.C.C.
Ans: P.C.C stands for Plain Cement Concrete. Usually 1:2:4 is used for P.C.C works.
  • Q3: Define R.C.C.
Ans: R.C.C stands for Reinforced Cement Concrete. Usually 2:4:8 is used for R.C.C works.
  • Q4: Define R.B.C.
Ans: R.B.C stands for Reinforced Brick Concrete. It contains bricks, steel, cement, sand and aggregate.
  • Q5: Write the purpose of preparing a BOQ.
    Ans: BOQ is prepared for:
    • ➔ Cost estimation
    • ➔ Tendering and bidding
    • ➔ Cost control
    • ➔ Communication and Transparency
  • Q6: Write down the measuring unit for pointing work.
Ans: Pointing work is measured in square meters.
  • Q7: Write down the items of work for Manhole.
Ans: Following are the items of work:
    • ➔ Excavation
    • ➔ PCC
    • ➔ RCC cover slab
    • ➔ Manhole frame and cover
    • ➔ Backfilling
  • Q8: Write down the items of work for Sewerline.
Ans: Following are the items of work:
    • ➔ Excavation of trench
    • ➔ Preparation of bedding with sand, gravel, or PCC for supporting the pipes
    • ➔ Laying and jointing of sewer pipes with proper slope
    • ➔ Construction of manholes at specified intervals
    • ➔ Backfilling and compaction of trench
  • Q9: Write down the items of work for Septic Tank.
Ans: Following are the items of work:
    • ➔ Excavation for the tank as per design dimensions.
    • ➔ PCC base for foundation stability.
    • ➔ Brick masonry work for walls and partitions.
    • ➔ Plastering and waterproofing inside and outside.
    • ➔ RCC cover slab with manhole openings.
  • Q10: Write down the items of work for Soakage Pit.
Ans: Following are the items of work:
    • ➔ Excavation of pit to required size.
    • ➔ Dry brick or stone masonry in circular or square shape.
    • ➔ Laying of filter media (brickbats, gravel, sand) at bottom.
    • ➔ Providing a perforated cover slab or mesh.
    • ➔ Backfilling and compaction of trench
  • Q11: How to calculate steel?
Ans: Steel is calculated as follows:
    • ➔ Weight of the bar in kg/meter should be calculated as (d²/162) where ‘d’ is the diameter of the bar in mm.
    • ➔ ‘L‘ for column main steel in footing should be considered as a minimum of 30cm or as specified.
    • ➔ For bent-up bars, add 0.42d in the straight length of the bar where ‘d’ is the clear depth of the beam/slab.
  • Q12: Draw a rough sketch of BOQ?
    Ans: Bar Bending Schedule Example
